The Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals will be suspended due to tragic circumstances. Unfortunately, a growing number of threats are targeting Nintendo and anyone involved with the Splatoon National Finals. Nintendo was forced to enforce this suspension to keep everyone safe.

This situation worried Nintendo, which influenced them to take even more precautions. They decided to cancel Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo because of the unlikelihood of everyone getting enough time to buy tickets for multiple events. These events include Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge Final Stage, and MK8 Deluxe World Championship 2024.
Threatening Leads

The threats can’t be clarified, though there are some hints about their origins. The source of violence came from the Splatoon community since the threats are targeting anyone involved with the competitive Splatoon scene. One theory could include the newest update for Splatoon 3, the chill season.

The recent season included a controversial weapon, the Splattercolor screen, that gives certain players a major problem. The new special is a large wall that advances in one direction. Any foe that walks through the hostile wall will have their vision grey-scaled, confusing their perception of ally and enemy. This weapon can greatly hinder disabled players with colorblindness, giving them nausea.
The theory doesn’t match well with the predicament. Nintendo described the situation as “persistently receiving threats,” meaning the problem arose much earlier during the lifespan of Splatoon 3. Additionally, the new season was released recently, which wouldn’t make sense for the growing aggression. The accessibility problem could have affected the hostile aggressors, but not to a grander extent.
Alarming Concerns for Splatoon Community

It’s unacceptable for gamers to resort to violence. Being upset over changes or decisions is one thing, but such disagreement should never result in hostility. These irrational actions punish not only competitors, but anyone who found free time in their busy schedules to participate in the events.
Though the Nintendo Live 2024 was canceled, the tournaments were only postponed to a later date. Nintendo will release the new tournament dates once the scheduling decisions are finalized. Their new information will be posted on the official website and Twitter account.
