Last Week in Gaming – June 25, 2019

Welcome to TAG Roundup!

Ever wonder what you missed in the world of gaming last week? No worries – we’ve got you covered!

We read a ton of video game articles each week and wanted to share some of our favorites with the Average Gamer community. We’ll feature everything from previews to reviews and everything in between.

The articles we share will be from a combination of well-known sources (like IGN) and more niche blogs that you may not have heard of. In the previous TAG Roundup post, we talked about Nintendo’s E3, the Atari retro console and more!

Last week was jam-packed with E3 news (check out a comprehensive review here) so we’ll just touch on some of the lesser-discussed topics. Without further ado, let’s jump into last week in gaming.

Super Mario BR? Yes, Please – Cult of Mac

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like if your favorite plumber was dropped into a Battle Royale? Now you have a chance to experience the BR craze in the world of Super Mario.

It’s different from your typical free-for-all, last-man standing arena. Instead of trying to kill your competitors, you are racing the other 74 people to the end of the level. All of this is happening while hoards of characters are scrolling across the screen.

The madness is fast-paced and nostalgic, but has already been affected by Nintendo’s copyright laws. An early video is below but you can play the current version of the game here.

Do you like Apex Legends? Do you like oatmeal? Then I’ve got the video for you!

Harry Potter Mimics Pokemon Go – Variety

A few days ago, Niantic launched another world-exploring, action-rpg mobile game. This time, you’ll find a world of wizards and monsters as you roam your neighborhood.

The game looks very involved and nuanced. Music is on point, graphics are solid and the voice acting feels authentic.

If you’ve played Pokemon Go (which, of course you have), you’ll be familiar with the location-based playstyle of this Harry Potter entrant. Be sure to stay aware of your surroundings as you cast your magic into the world.

All the Switch Mini Leaks – 9to5toys

Ever since we got wind of a new Nintendo Switch in development, people have been speculating what the second version might look like. A Chinese accessories company recently had out of stock Nintendo Switch mini items on their website.

From the looks of it, the new console will no longer have detachable controllers. It also appears that we’ll still use USB-C for charging and the hardware will take cartridge games.

There’s no official release date yet

Overwatch on Switch – BGR

Tinkerers love to tinker. It seems anytime a new piece of gaming hardware comes out, there are fans out there who take on the challenge of doing something unique with the system.

Although the moderately-popular Paladins is available on the Switch, the Blizzard developers haven’t ported Overwatch to the on-the-go console. Enter my favorite tinkerer right now.

You can see from the footage below that Overwatch is running smoothly in the training grounds. It looks tougher to aim on the small joy-con joysticks but it’s still an awesome achievement.
